As Dutch sprinter Fabio Jakobsen won the Last stage of the Vuelta a Espana in 24, slovenian Primoz Roglic ensured his first Grand Tour.
23, jakobsen, took his second stage win of the race, narrowly defeating at Sam Bennett at a sprint that was chaotic.
Even the Irishman found himself boxed in and although he closed was not able to improve his two previous point wins.
Jumbo Visma’s Roglic, 29, completed two minutes 16 seconds ahead of Spain’s Alejandro Valverde.
Roglic became the very first Slovenian to acquire the classification in one of cycling’s three Grand Tours – the Giro d’Italia, the Tour of France and the Vuelta.
After winning the time trial on point 10 he moved into the leader of red jersey.
He place a minute and a half into all of his rivals and was preferred for the stage.
He gave him a lead of almost two moments at the GC and with assistance from his Jumbo Visma group he was able to keep the jersey over the second half of their Vuelta all the way.
On a day for Slovenia, 20-year-old Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates joined winning the rider group, in addition to Roglic about the podium in third position.
